After the three days of walking, we had an early 3.30am wake up call. After breakfast, we then had an easy 5km hike while the sun came up.
We got to the Sun Gate or Inti Punku in local Quechua language, at around 7am and our first glimpse of Machu Picchu.
When we got to the site, we had a two hour tour with our guide for the whole four day trip, Percy.
We got to know about the sun temple and the use of Machu Picchu as a sacred religious and astronomical site. The site was vacated before the Spanish arrived in 1532. The Spanish never found Machu Picchu hence it is still intact and not destroyed as other sites throughout the old Inca empire in this part of the world.
Then we got to explore the site ourselves, meet the local natives.
And take a lot of photos.
We did our tour with Peru Treks, who were amazing.
That is has been on my bucket list for Aeons.
The walking and travel is treating you both well. Andy – you’re looking slim!
